The class on 3D printed design was connected to the topic of an ornament in architecture. The once very valuable piece of a front door is losing its role today - a door knocker. The very typical lion's head design is here replaced by a fish design.

First design of a Koi fish, modeled in Maya, was tested for a 3D print. Printed with 2 parts to minimize the needed supports and to ensure a smoother surface. The model was then remodeled to create a door knocker which could later be used as a model for creating a negative model in which the actual door knocker could be poured from another material.
